Woof, woof, meow, Friends! Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a staunch supporter of pet adoption and animal rescue. That’s why I’m thrilled to share Tails of Hope’s Trails for Tails event in Rutland, VT on October 4. Tails of Hope is Rutland County’s Humane Society, dedicated to building a more humane and compassionate community for animals and the people who love them. They provide shelter, care, and adoption opportunities for animals in need, and advance welfare through outreach and education that strengthen our community one tail at a time.

Mark your calendars for Trails for Tails and lace up those sneakers– it's going to be one tail-waggingly good time! Whether you're racing the 5K (ages 12 and up, $35) or bringing the whole crew for the Fun Run ($10), every step you take helps shelter animals find their forever homes. And the fun doesn't stop at the finish line! Grab a bite from the food truck, pucker up at the dog kissing booth, show off your best throw in the frisbee contest, strut your stuff in the costume contest, or just relax with some yard games in the crisp fall air. Don't forget to grab a T-shirt to remember the day! Dogs are not permitted on the race course, but they’re more than welcome to join the fun at the event! All dogs must be leashed at all times. See you at the starting line!

Mishka

5-year-old, neutered male. Black & white Husky.

Mishka is a handsome, independent dog who is seeking an experienced, dog-savvy owner who understands and respects canine body language. It is important to allow him the space he needs to build trust. Because of this, he is looking for an adult-only home or one without young children. He is also dog-selective, so any canine companions would need to be carefully matched. True to his breed's nature, he's not the type of dog who wants constant cuddles or attention. He prefers to bond through walks and enrichment. Veterinary visits may require extra patience and planning to help him feel comfortable. Mishka is currently being treated for Lyme disease and should continue his medication until the prescribed course is complete. Many dogs recover well, though it's important to know that Lyme tests may remain positive in the future, and treatment is typically only needed if clinical symptoms develop again. For the right person, Mishka will be a loyal companion who values mutual respect over constant attention. If you appreciate an independent dog with a big personality and are willing to let him set the pace of your relationship, Mishka could be the perfect addition to your home.

Sylus

7-year-old neutered male. Grey & white domestic shorthair cat.

Meet Sylus, a handsome 7-year-old gentleman who knows what he likes and isn’t afraid to let you know! This sweet boy would love to find a home where he can be your one-and-only feline companion. Sylus does not enjoy living with other cats, but he does well with dogs! He’d likely be happiest in a home without young children, or with older, cat-savvy kids who understand that cats sometimes need a little space. Sylus can become overstimulated with too much handling or activity, so having people who can read his cues and respect his boundaries will help him feel comfortable and confident. Give Sylus a home where he can relax, settle in, and be himself, and he’ll be ready to show you just how special he is. If you’re looking for a mature companion who knows his own mind and can be your one-and-only cat, Sylus may be your guy!

Miskha & Sylus aren’t the only fur babies looking for their new home. Visit Tails of Hope today to meet your next family member.
