Meet Jayson and Renée Coté! Jayson’s personal and professional journey to opening GearHaus/FlyHaus is anything but ordinary. From being a high school baseball phenom (and NY Mets prospect!), to studying environmental policy at UVM, to a long and successful career in software development building websites and tech platforms for brands like Osprey and Patagonia, Jayson has always been driven by a passion for the outdoors.
When wife Renée joked that their own collection of high-quality gear was reaching "store-sized" proportions, they realized Manchester was missing a hub for sustainable, pre-owned outdoor equipment.
Inspired by the used gear shops of Colorado, they opened their doors in the old Radio Shack location in 2024 to help local adventurers find pro-level gear without the pro-level price tag. Business was so robust that they soon expanded into fly fishing as an additional offering and moved into their larger current space, where, due to the more tourist-friendly location, their business grew exponentially and continues to expand. They currently have over 1,000 local consigners as part of their network!
Jayson sees the business’s core mission as "breaking down the cost barriers" for traditionally expensive outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, and fly-fishing, and making the sports he loves more accessible to everyone. Beyond retail success, Jayson is enthusiastically committed to giving back to the community through ongoing gear and clothing donations, especially to young local families, offering educational events like open fly-tying sessions and casting classes, and he plans to host regular speaker events on a wide variety of outdoor recreation and conservation topics. Come visit Jayson and Renée today at Gearhaus, 497 Depot St. in Manchester, or visit their website.
