Hi, Friends. June is Pride Month and there will be events over the course of the next few weeks that celebrate the spirit of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. I remember nearly 11 years ago, on June 26, 2015, same sex marriage was legalized on the federal level. It was a joyous day for all of us who believe that “love is love.” It was also my 10th wedding anniversary. My husband and I proudly celebrated the long-awaited national triumph alongside our friends and family.

What’s in store for Southern Vermont Pride this year? Bennington Pride returns on June 27 with fun events all day long, kicking off with the annual Bennington Pride Parade down Main Street in downtown Bennington from 11am to 1pm. Join the Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE) and the Pick-Up band to dance in celebration (that’s my husband playing sax in the back of the truck)! Queer Connect Bennington is also throwing a Block Party from 10am to 4pm at the Splash Pad that you won’t want to miss.

Then, make your way over to Willow Park for the VAE and Sunrise Family Resource Center's 5th Annual Summer Jam from 11am to 3pm, where you’ll find more live music with Peter King and Friends. There will also be lots of games, activities, free lunch, raffles, a farm petting zoo, and booths from area organizations that show you the heart of Bennington.

But wait, there’s more! Your next stop is in North Bennington for the 29th Annual North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (NBOSS) from 4pm to 8pm. There, you will find even more live music with James Levin and Beard + Glasses, the iconic VAE Art Bus, merch for sale, hot dogs, Corner of India delights, and 40+ sculptors throughout the Village. What a joyous day in Bennington! Part Pride, part art, part community, and all FUN!
